Just Complete the Task

Constantly asking yourself, Is this good enough? creates perfectionism. It makes you think there’s no sense in doing something if you don’t do it well.

Instead, try using a binary mindset in evaluating your daily activities. Ask yourself if you did something at all, not how well you did it.

You don’t have to work out for 45 minutes or more. Instead, celebrate that you showed up to the gym at all.

You don’t have to write a bestselling book. Instead, congratulate yourself for writing and publishing a book at all.

You don’t have to craft the perfect resumé when applying for a job. Instead, cheer yourself on when you complete the application for the job at all.

The less you rate and judge the results of your actions in your daily life, and instead celebrate having shown up at all, the happier and more motivated you will feel.

Stop asking whether what you’ve done is “good enough.” Asking whether you did something at all—a binary yes/no question—will boost your productivity, your mental state, and your willingness to move forward.

Today, I let go of evaluating the output and results of my activities. I celebrate when I show up and complete a task, no matter how well or poorly I do it.
