Day 310 of 1000: Reviewing my Old Website

I’m undertaking a 1000-day reinvention project, blogging here daily to track my progress. In Wednesday Writing, I consider my writing practice and skills and how to improve upon them.

I also have a Wednesday Website category. I’ll be writing about both my websites and my writing today.

Before I started this 1000-day blogging project, I completed a 365-day reinvention blogging project, The Reinvention Project (TRP). I’m coming up on the hosting renewal for The Reinvention Project. It’s not expensive but I’m wondering whether to keep it around or decommission it. I link to it fairly regularly here but it’s not like it’s seeing any traffic otherwise. It’s just a useful archive of writing and ideas for me.

At one point I downloaded all those posts and imported them into this site’s archives but that became messy. I could still try that again, and it might be a bit of a fun technical task to do.

Interesting that the posts by tag cloud on that site shows that investing was the tag I used the most (bigger words mean more posts with that tag). Art, cognitive defusion, mindfulness, and photography were also heavily used

It’s interesting to look back at what I was thinking about and doing during that time period. I took professional photography courses at the local community college. I was really into Tracy Goss’ The Last Word on Power, a 1996 book for executives about letting go of limiting thinking and finding ways to do the impossible (at your job, but it also seems to apply to your life in general). I wrote many times about cognitive defusion and mindfulness, two techniques to let go of thinking that feels oppressive.

Let’s try a tag cloud for this site:

abstract landscape art artificial intelligence authenticity byung-chul han cadmium red light china marker creativity daily routine dogs existentialism gold investing iris murdoch kierkegaard love marketing market timing martha beck memoir midlife nietzsche oliver burkeman painting philosophy precious metals pure abstract rachel pollack recklessness reckless romance reinvention road trip S&P 500 seventy-eight degrees of wisdom skiing social media Tarot the burnout society the Other things men gave me tmgm turquoise war white background writing

Look at that: investing is still one of my most used tags. Also I’ve been writing about my favorite philosopher’s work (byung-chul han), Tarot, writing itself, and artificial intelligence. This tag cloud includes tags I’ve applied to my paintings, as I used to create a post for each painting. I don’t generally do that anymore; I just upload the image to media and pop it into a gallery or two.

Things Men Gave Me, which I have written many times about, was a project I worked on last year and then paused. I wrote a series of essays about my experiences with romance and created paintings to go with them. That was fun but ultimately not something I wanted to continue.

Renewing hosting for The Reinvention Project website is just $48 for the year. That’s not much to keep this around while the reinvention plays out. I have this idea that maybe once I know where I end up I can go back and write about the entire process, missteps and detours and all. Having TRP as part of my archives will be useful.
